$1.5 Million in Conservation Grants Awarded & Other Grants Still Available
Conservation projects are vital for the future, however, few people understand what the term really means. So before we even begin to talk about anything else, let’s start with a definition:
Conservation relates to environmental considerations. Environmental conservation is the protection, preservation, management, and restoration of natural environments and the ecological communities that inhabit them.
One of the areas in need of supporting a diverse ecosystem is the Pecos River Valley – spanning Southeastern New Mexico, and West Texas communities. Correspondingly, $1.5 million in grant funding was recently awarded by The Pecos Watershed Conservation Initiative, to restore habitats and combat invasive species. This initiative is an association of businesses & partners that include:
- Chevron
- Occidental Petroleum
- XTO Energy
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
- Bureau of Land Management
While initiatives like these are important, further progression is needed to help assist other areas in need. With this in mind, we’ve found some of the most popular conservational grants currently available.
Grants Focused On Conservation:
1. Grants are available to USA Tribal Governments for environmental conservation programs. Specifically, the funds to maintain natural habitats that have significance in Native American culture.
2. Projects and programs that protect migratory bird habitats, could be eligible to apply for grant funding. Likewise, these projects must involve long-term protection, restoration, and/or enhancement of wetlands and associated uplands habitats for the benefit of all wetlands-associated migratory birds.
3. Funding is available to protect and restore mountain climbing areas. Moreover, this grant is to help create healthy climbing landscapes, empower local climbing communities, and promote respect for climbing locations.
