Montgomery County’s Board of Commissioners Open Restaurant Grant Program
Many small and medium businesses have been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Between lockdowns, safety measures, and the pandemic itself, 2020 has been a very hard year. The businesses that have certainly been hit the hardest, have been restaurants. As the weather changes, restaurant owners are struggling to maintain outside dining. Cities and states have had to grapple with how to help these businesses to survive, while so many small businesses and restaurants especially have closed their doors forever. In Montgomery County, Pennsylvania a program was opened up to assist these restaurants.
Restaurants May Have Some Help For The Holidays
The County Commerce Department and the Redevelopment Authority of Montgomery County will be administering this program. It will open on December 30th and will allow restaurants to apply for grants up to $10,000. These grants will go toward relevant business expenses through 2021. The rules regarding this program would specify that any restaurant that would be eligible to apply for this grant would have had to be compliant with all of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the county’s COVID-19 restrictions and safety measures since March 12th, 2020.
If the restaurant has defied any COVID-19 mitigation orders by the state or county or has been shut down because of it, that restaurant is ineligible to apply.
Also, while restaurants with multiple locations are eligible to apply for this program as well, there is a limit to four, and each location must be applied for individually.
Commissioners Vice-Chair Ken Lawrence Jr spoke on the Commissioners previous small business efforts during this pandemic:
Previously, we’ve awarded nearly $20 million to Montco businesses and nonprofits and that came from CARES funding, but when this new round of mitigation efforts came around, we wanted to do something specifically for the restaurant industry because we know that they have borne the brunt of this.”
Small businesses like restaurants are really struggling right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic which is why we have two separate categories on GrantWatch that may interest you. We have created a COVID-19 category to help those impacted by the pandemic, as well as a small-business category that will help our customers to search for what they need.
