The Last Salute
The Last Salute Military Funeral Honor Guard is a nonprofit organization that serves the veteran community. They conduct free military ceremonies for all 4 branches of the military. It is 100% self-funded and like many organizations like themselves out there they are always seeking funds to continue to do the work that they do in New Jersey.
The Honor Guard performs about 125 ceremonies every year for active and veteran military personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. They are an all-volunteer group consisting of military veterans for the most part.
They also provide a military funeral ceremony and ceremonial burial honors. Some of those honors included are:
- Gun Salute
- Flag Folding & Presentation
- Honor Guard
- Caisson Service (Humvee & Gun Carriage)
- Taps
- Casket Guard
- Cannon – the “Jaime Lee” (our Civil War Cannon fires a single volley)
While they are a New Jersey organization, they do take special considerations for ceremonies in other locations, knowing full well how much the extra bit of support means to the families of veterans.
In 2017, they received the “Yellow Ribbon” award from Tony Orlando for their dedication to military veterans. (Galloway Patriot 2017)
On July 17, 2019, the Last Salute Military Funeral Honor Guard became the official military funeral honor guard of Atlantic City. Although Last Salute Military Funeral Honor Guard is a nonprofit organization the recognition will help support the Honor Guard’s mission.
