- Salt Lake City is about 4,300 feet above sea level. Visitors used to much lower elevation may feel its effects easily. Hot tip: Stay hydrated!
- Salt Lake City is named after the Great Salt Lake. The fun thing about this lake is how easy it is to stay afloat! Swimmers float easily in the lake because it’s so dense with salt.
- Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002, and of course, they were a rousing success. Utahns are known for their warmth and hospitality—and the splendid snow helped too.
- Utah gave us an important First! Lester Wire of Salt Lake City designed the first traffic light to use red and green lights.
- Salt Lake City is a cultural and artistic hub. Salt Lake City hosts screenings of the annual Sundance Film Festival in January.
- Did you save room? Green Jell-O was named the official state snack in 2001.

There are grants to Utah nonprofits to promote charitable activities.
6. Community Benefit Program and Project Grants!
In addition, grants of up to $20,000 to eligible Utah nonprofits for community benefit programs and projects.
Utah Grants for the Arts, Teachers, Education, and Research
7. Projects in the Arts Benefiting Local Residents!
In addition, grants of up to $5,000 to eligible Utah nonprofits for art projects benefiting local residents.
8. Grants to Engage the Public in the Humanities!
Grants of up to $8,000 to Utah nonprofits to engage the public in the humanities.
9. Artist Grants for Professional Career Development!
There are grants of up to $1,500 to Utah artists to support and promote their professional development and career advancement.
10. Research to Address Integrating Renewable Energy!
There is an opportunity for eligible Utah researchers and industry partners for research to address the challenges of integrating renewable energy into the electric grid. Successful applicants will receive $10,000 and selected winners will receive an additional $5,000.
11. Career Development Library Grant Opportunities!
In addition, grants of up to $1,000 to Utah school library or public library employees, staff, or board members for professional development opportunities.
12. Foreign Exchange Program Cooperative Agreements!
Cooperative agreements to eligible Utah nonprofits, including academic and cultural institutions, to run an international foreign exchange program for high school students.
Utah Grants for Youths, Veterans, Disability, Health, and Animals
13. Diversity in Entrepreneurship and Investments!
Grants to eligible Utah nonprofits to advance diversity in the fields of entrepreneurship and investments.
14. Grants to Address Community Health Needs!
There are grants to eligible Utah nonprofit agencies and organizations to address community health needs.
15. Project Initiatives to Benefit People with Autism!
Also, grants to Utah organizations for research projects and initiatives to benefit individuals with disabilities.
16. Grants for Improved Mental Health Services!
Grants to Utah nonprofits for programs and projects to prevent child abuse, improve mental health services, and support education benefiting children and other underserved residents.
17. Grants to Youth for Innovative Projects and Ideas!
There are grants of up to $5,000 to eligible Utah youth, ages 16 to 25, to pursue innovative ideas and projects. Special consideration will be for applications with a focus on entrepreneurship.
18. Improving the Lives of Injured Military Veterans!
Also, grants to eligible Utah nonprofits to improve the lives of injured military veterans and their families.
19. Projects to Advance Career Development Skills!
Grants to eligible nonprofits for projects benefiting youth, young adults, and veterans with disabilities.
20. Grants for Wildlife Habitat Conservation!
Lastly, grants of up to $2,000 to Utah nonprofits for projects to protect and enhance wildlife habitats throughout the state.
