“Literacy empowers and liberates people. Beyond its importance as part of the right to education, literacy improves lives by expanding capabilities which in turn reduces poverty, increases participation in the labor market, and has positive effects on health and sustainable development.”

Grants and In-Kind Support for Literacy
- There are grants available to nonprofit organizations for programs that improve literacy among adults and families.

- In-kind support is also offered in the form of new children’s books for libraries in rural areas. The purpose is to build community investment in children’s literacy.
- Grants of up to $6,000 to nonprofits for the provision of literacy services for students. In particular, funding is for general operations, including equipment, supplies, salaries, space rental, technology, and teacher stipends.
- In addition, grants are available to eligible nonprofits for Literacy/STEAM-focused educational programs for grades PreK-8. Program goals include preparing children for kindergarten and ensuring that students are reading at or above grade level by the time they reach third grade.
- Funding of up to $200 is available to K-3 educators for professional development in the area of early literacy.
- There are also in-kind book donations available for organizations to provide underserved communities with reading material.
- Lastly, grants of up to $50,000 to eligible nonprofits for programs to benefit vulnerable youth. The grant focuses on three critical educational milestones that can mean the difference between poverty and prosperity, including learning readiness and achieving early literacy.
